A Partnership Built On Trust

Jay Miller and Mike LaPoint met on the job while working in the commercial interior division for a highly regarded commercial construction company headquartered in Houston, Texas. Both were involved with some of the company’s most complex projects and worked side-by-side with many of the brightest minds in the industry. It was this experience and exposure that helped both Jay and Mike learn their trade at an extremely accelerated pace.

As natural leaders and collaborative thinkers, the duo was selected to open a new interior construction division in Houston’s Central Business District. Both were promoted to the level of senior project managers where they oversaw the new division’s daily business activities of marketing, project management, recruiting, quality control, safety, and P&L. Through Jay and Mike’s vision and leadership, this business venture was extremely successful and contracted $30 million annually.

In 2016, both were approached by a rising competitor to help bolster its management team with their proven experience. In their new roles as Vice Presidents, they were able to utilize their previous experiences and contacts to grow their new employer’s revenue and employee base. Ultimately, the two entrepreneurial division leaders both knew that they desired to be in control of their own destiny—by means of obtaining ownership of their own business.

In April of 2018, Jay and Mike officially opened the doors of Miller LaPoint Construction. Their vision was to create a construction company with the primary focus of class A interior construction. At the core of their business philosophy were three values: to be trustworthy, to serve, and to lead by example. Miller LaPoint Construction’s definition of TRUST--the reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, and surety of a person or thing--has carried them a long way in a short period of time and it will always be the foundation of MLC’s success.
